Primary Colors

Human eye has the ability to perceive three colors namely, Magenta, Cyan and Yellow. These three colors are the fundamental colors, making use of which rest of the colors are produced. RGB and Hex Values

It is used in the form #rgb(x, y, z) where x, y, and z are the shade intensity of red, blue and green colors.

Color Temperature

Colors also represent the feel of the design i.e. Cool or Warm. Based on the type of perceiving, every color has some significance. Colors that are brighter, in general, represent warm environment while those with light impact possess cooler feel. For example, the view of a cold place is slightly bluish compared to the sunny day being full of bright yellow colors. So, color temperature is of much significance in graphic design.

 

The Color Wheel

A color wheel or circle of colors is a visual representation of colors in an arranged order based on their chromatic relationship. A color wheel generally consists of 7 or 12 colors which also defines color hierarchy viz. Primary, Secondary and Tertiary. Primary colors consist of Red, Yellow and Blue while Secondary colors consist of Violet, Orange and Green. All other color combination falls under tertiary colors.

 

Primary Color schemes

A color combination strategy practiced by most of the designer is used for mixing of several color schemes from the color wheel to achieve a particular pattern. Some of the primary schemes are listed below:-

 

Monochrome-This color scheme consists of some tones, shades, and saturations of an uni-based color that are very cohesive,but the color might look monotonous.

 

Complementary-These color schemes are based on two different colors  from either side of the color wheel. This is useful in depicting designs with certain dissimilarities.

 

Analogous-This color scheme consists of three consecutive colors on the color wheel. As there are cohesive similarities, it is well-suited for creating unified designs design that are distinct from the monochrome schemes.

 

Triadic- In order to make use of the triadic color scheme, an equilateral triangle is drawn on the color wheel where three colors at the points of the triangle are selected. And as a result of this, a diverse and balanced color scheme is generated.
