Web accessibility is a major aspect of every designing project. Your design effort is a waste if someone finds it difficult to go through and interact. So, every care should be taken to enhance the web-accessibility of your website. As we know, web-accessibility deals with providing internet accessibility to users who are physically disabled, it becomes quite challenging to enable them access through your accessibility enabled design. In this article, we shall put light on few important tools that might prove handy in accessibility based designs.
WAVE:- WAVE accessibility tool is used to help web developers make their web content more accessible. WAVE does not evaluate the complete accessibility. Instead, it helps web-developers determine true accessibility providing them with a test environment which is very easy to use. Using the form at the top of any page, simply enter the web page address of your page or browse to a file on your computer.
AChecker:- This tool checks single HTML page for conformance with accessibility standards to ensure whether or not the content can be accessed by everyone. It is an open source accessibility evaluation tool where one can submit a web page via its URL or by uploading its HTML file and subsequently selecting which guidelines to evaluate it against, namely the HTML Validator, BITV, Section 508, Stanca Act, WCAG 1.0 and WCAG 2.0.
OCAWA:- It works well with a variety of rule-setstakes and takes entire rule-set into account instead of just including easy part. Also, it generates an in-depth technical report with numerous source line references and complete source code that is useful for developers. OCAWA also generates a high-level report that focuses on indicating general accessibility trends and providing a repeatable and verifiable percentage score for decision makers working with different simultaneous projects.
Total Validator:- Total Validator is another useful web-accessibility evaluation tool. It performs some of the tasks like spell checking and broken links checks, all combined into a single tool that allows validation of the websites in one-click.
Contrast Analyser:- It is sometimes very difficult to decide which color should you use on your website. You have to make sure that the color combination also works very well. This is essential because color combination contributes to a very distinct aspect of accessibility i.e. readability. Colour Contrast Analyser allows user to distinguish among different colors. Apart from this, colors can also be set manually to determine whether people with visual impairments, such as color blindness, will be able to read it or not.
